Jacqueline was born in colombo - Sri Lanka in Sinhalese family. Father was working in Bahrain as a manager level in leading company in Manama. At age of 3 her father got the family visa and got his wife and kids to Bahrain. Jacqueline started her school in Manama itself. She finished her school from Holy Crest Girl School and further did her Master degree in Mass Media studies from Murray University in Melbourne Australia. After finishing her Degree she did correspondence course of Fashion designing and modeling. By 2003 she returned to Sri Lanka and started her profession as model. She started doing modeling for leading Designer. By November 2005 she was short listed as contestant for Miss Sri Lanka Universe. From here she chose modeling as her career.

She has been leading participant for leading designers in Middle East countries. Other than this she has been participating in fashion show for leading designers of Australia. In 2005 she won the small contest of Modeling in Singapore where 65 countries had participated. In Sri Lanka she is on the top list for modeling. In year 2006 she was contestant of Miss Sri Lanka Universe. Her hard efforts gave her fruitful result. She became the Beauty Queen of Sri Lanka by winning Miss Srilanka Universe. Later she was also contestant for Miss Universe 2006 but she was lagging behind in many aspects. But she is happy to be contestant in Miss Universe from her country.

Jacqueline Fernandez is a former Miss Sri Lanka Universe 2006. She has three siblings, two brothers and an older sister. She is the cousin of Frederica Jansz and is half Malaysian and half Sri-Lankan.

She did most of her schooling in Bahrain’s Sacred Heart School where she was motivated to do well and excelled in events such as Athletics, Drama and many other fields. She was most fond of Track and Field and also picked up Horse Riding.

She has a passion for cultures and languages because of which she also joined the Berlitz School of languages. She learned to speak Spanish and improve her French and Arabic.

She is very ambitious and also a perfectionist. She also anchored one of Sri Lanka's business programs called "Lanka Business Report". Not restricting herself to being only on camera, she also writes a weekly column for a national newspaper, the "Daily mirror". In March 2006, Fernandez was crowned the Miss Sri Lanka Universe 2006 and subsequently represented Sri Lanka at Miss Universe 2006.

After competing at Miss Universe, she worked as an anchor on Lanka Business Report and wrote a weekly column for The Daily Mirror while modeling in India.

Fernandez made her acting debut in the 2009 Bollywood fantasy movie Aladin opposite Ritesh Deshmukh, She played the character inspired by Disney Princess Jasmine a new girl in college who has come from America.

2010 saw her once again appearing alongside Ritesh Deshmukh in the romantic comedy Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai. She also made a cameo appearance in Sajid Khan's Housefull in the song 'Dhanno' which was a big success.



In 2011, Fernandez appeared in her third film, Mahesh Bhatt's thriller Murder 2, which went on to become her first box office success, receiving blockbuster status.

Fernandez grabbed a lot of attention for the boldness and sex appeal she displayed in the movie. Murder 2 launched Fernandez's career for the good, as she started getting offers from big production houses.

Post Murder 2 success, Fernandez was offered another movie by the Bhatt camp, Raaz 3 which was a sequel to the Raaz installments. Fernandez later walked out of the movie due to director Vikram Bhatt's demand of her to wear skimpy outfits in the movie.

Fernandez also backed out of the role of a superwoman in the sequel film Krrish 3, as she refused a kissing scene with lead actor Hrithik Roshan in the film.
