Jacqueline Fernandez is a former Miss Sri Lanka Universe 2006. She has three siblings, two brothers and an older sister. She is the cousin of Frederica Jansz and is half Malaysian and half Sri-Lankan.

She did most of her schooling in Bahrain’s Sacred Heart School where she was motivated to do well and excelled in events such as Athletics, Drama and many other fields. She was most fond of Track and Field and also picked up Horse Riding.

She has a passion for cultures and languages because of which she also joined the Berlitz School of languages. She learned to speak Spanish and improve her French and Arabic.

She is very ambitious and also a perfectionist. She also anchored one of Sri Lanka's business programs called "Lanka Business Report". Not restricting herself to being only on camera, she also writes a weekly column for a national newspaper, the "Daily mirror". Jacqueline Fernandez is a Sri Lankan actress and model who was crowned Miss
Universe Sri Lanka in 2006. She is currently working in the Mumbai film industry.

She was born into a Sinhalese family in Colombo. Both her parents are Sinhalese — her father hails from Negombo but has now migrated to Malaysia, and her mother hails from Kandy. At age three, she moved with her family to Bahrain where she studied at the Holy Crest Girls’ School in Manama. She took part in a variety of activities in school that ranged from ballet to athletics. Jacqueline Fernandez graduated from the Murrey University in Australia with a degree in mass media studies, following which she started modeling in Australia, Singapore, Dubai and Sri Lanka.
She won the crown for the Miss Sri Lanka Universe in 2006 and competed in the Miss Universe pageant but unfortunately, could not make it to the finals. After the pageant, she started working as an anchor for the Lanka Business Report and also was the writer for a column in The Daily Mirror. Jacqueline Fernandez debuted as an actor in the Hindi film called Aladin, which was directed by Sujoy Ghosh and released in 2009. This film casted Ritesh Deshmukh opposite her and in her very first film, she had the opportunity of working in a film that also starred Hindi film stalwarts like Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt. In the film, that was a reworking of the fairytale of Aladin, Jacqueline played the role of jasmine, who was a student from America who joined Aladin’s college. In 2010, she acted in the romantic comedy Jaane Kahan Se Aaya Hai directed by Milap Zaveri. In this film too she acted opposite Ritesh Deshmukh, thereby sparking off rumours of an alleged affair between the two co-stars. But she has repeatedly denied such rumours. Jacqueline Fernandez plays the role of an alien who comes from Venus to Earth in search of true love. In the same year, she had a special appearance in the film Housefull in an item number called “Apni toh Jaise Taise.” This film starred Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Lara Dutta, Jiah Khan and Ritesh Deshmukh.

Career beginnings (2006–10):

In March 2006, Fernandez was crowned the Miss Sri Lanka Universe 2006 and subsequently represented Sri Lanka at Miss Universe 2006 held in Los Angeles where she was unplaced. From there she began receiving offers to go to India for more modelling, and she got selected for a Bollywood film. She has worked as an anchorwoman on one of Sri Lanka’s business programs called “Lanka Business Report”. She also writes a weekly column for a national newspaper, the “Daily mirror”. Jackie also has a non-profit organisation in Sri Lanka focusing on empowering the underprivileged. She has come in a VIP ad with Shahid Kapoor Fernandez made her acting debut in the 2009 Bollywood fantasy movie Aladin opposite Ritesh Deshmukh. She played a character inspired by the Disney Princess character of Jasmine.

In 2010 saw her once again appearing alongside Ritesh Deshmukh in the romantic comedy Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai. She also made a cameo appearance in Sajid Khan’s Housefull in the song ‘Dhanno’ which was a big success. Fernandez almost gave up acting during this time because good roles were not coming to her.

Breakthrough & success (2011–present):
In 2011, Fernandez appeared in her third film, Mahesh Bhatt’s thriller Murder 2, which went on to become her first box office success, receiving blockbuster status. Fernandez played the role of Priya a lonely model who is in a confused relationship with Arjun Bhagwat, played by Emraan Hashmi. Fernandez grabbed a lot of attention for the boldness and sex appeal she displayed in the movie. Murder 2 launched Fernandez’s career for the good, as she started getting offers from big production houses. Post Murder 2 success, Fernandez turned down many roles, such as Raaz 3D, to avoid being type cast as a sex symbol. She also turned down a role in Krrish 3, but that was due to date conflicts.

In 2012 Fernandez appeared in Housefull 2, which become a major commercial success, receiving a super hit status at the box office. Also, Fernandez received positive reviews for her performance. Fernandez is currently filming for Abbas-Mustan’s Race 2, which is expected to be released on 25 January 2013, on Republic Day and for a cameo in Vikram Bhatt’s Raaz 3D, which is due for release in September 2012. She is also expected to film an item number for the film Total Dhamaal.
